The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will not be transferred to the Office of the President (OP), Malacañang said on Saturday.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said there is no plan to put TESDA under the direct supervision of President Aquino even as the agency's new director general Joel Villanueva has reportedly unearthed anomalies allegedly done by the previous administration.

“He (Villanueva) has the trust and confidence of the President. He is known to be a very competent congressman. I had an opportunity to speak to him because I guested in his television show last week and he told me personally what he had discovered.

As of now there are no plans to put it under the OP. It is now in very, very competent hands. He said he has discovered 'landmines' and in due time, we will be revealing all of them,” Lacierda said in an interview over the government-run DZRB radio.

TESDA is currently under the supervision of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE).

On Friday, in a dialogue with Malacañang reporters, Aquino himself complained about the problems he inherited from the administration of former president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Aquino in particular cited the impending 250-percent increase in the toll rates of the newly-rehabilitated South Luzon Expressway as one of the “landmines.”

Lacierda assured that such "landmines" as well as the alleged excessive perks of officials of government-owned and controlled corporations and government financial institutions would be addressed by the Aquino administration.
