The Price of Fitness
Taking care of Alda

The first time I ever heard about Rever Salon and its owner, David Charlton was right after school when I took my first and only “real” job ever, so to speak, as a trainer at the Reed Fitness Center, then one of only two top health clubs in the country. I was there for five years and David was at the gym daily, either just getting in from a run, or training with really heavy resistance – his legs were so powerful he used the entire stack of weights to do Leg Extensions! – or joining a high-impact cardio class and barely breaking a sweat.
Many people wondered about him, after all, he did know everything there was to know about hair, but it was easy to see David was and always will be 150 percent male. His strength and stamina are definitely legendary, but they’re only second to his generosity and kindness. Which is why, when I asked him to sponsor our Makeover Challengers from the very start, several years ago, he didn’t hesitate for a moment, despite the fact that he already had approximately 200 David’s Salon branches to take care of, and since then he hasn’t stopped supporting our participants!
Our current challenger, Alda, has very curly, even kinky hair that is difficult to manage. She had her hair rebonded several times to try and make it easier for her to handle and ended up severely damaging it.
David saw the photos and was as always, concerned but optimistic. He handed the job over to Boots Bonifacio, director of the TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) - accredited David Salon Training Academy and she assigned Lorna Sandoval, their training manager who has amassed 25 years of experience with them since the days of Rever at the Mandarin Hotel. Lorna trained under David himself and attended prestigious seminars in Europe and the U.S., such as "Hair World", "Trend Vision", and the "Vidal Sassoon" workshop.
For well over a year now, Lorna and her staff at the David’s Prestige at the Podium have been carefully and patiently tending Alda’s tresses. They also rebonded her hair, but with a very protective procedure.
They prepared her hair with a porosity balancer to protect the hair, then applied a straightening cream, allowed it to develop, then rinsed it off. Next was the neutralizing, where the hair is locked into its new, straighter form.
For a fresh, youthful look, they applied a gentle color that has no ammonia, just color deposit and conditioning gloss to bring back the luster to her hair. Lorna then reshaped her hair and added layers all around to frame Alda’s face beautifully.
To prepare for our pictorials, they styled and blowdried her hair and as the photos show, it’s a very far cry from her once dry, damaged hair. Alda and I are extremely happy with the results, not just because of the expense that went into all the hair care sessions – which I’m sure was quite sizeable – but most of all because of the sincere regard and care that went into each and every treatment, which in my book is priceless.
