President Aquino on Wednesday bared his new appointees which include Emil de Quiros as president of the Social Security System (SSS) and Regina Bautista-Martin as administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).

Aquino in a press briefing also bared his plan to appoint former Akbayan lawmaker Loretta Ann "Etta" Rosales as Human Rights Commissioner whose appointment papers, he said, he would sign soon.

De Quiros is a brother of newspaper columnist Conrado de Quiros who had supported Aquino during the May 10 polls.

"I signed Emil De Quiros’ appointment, if I’m not mistaken, yesterday (Tuesday) and his being the brother of Conrado de Quiros is not relevant to his appointment at SSS. Conrad de Quiros, he’s not a business columnist — I wouldn’t ask his advice with regards to this. But he has so many other attributes," Aquino said in defending his choice for the SSS portfolio previously occupied by Romulo Neri.

Aquino, meanwhile, was all praises on his choice for the SRA post, Martin, whom he described as a "small sugar planter from Negros Occidental."

Martin he said is a relative of an "in-law." Aquino said Rosales will soon head the Commission on Human Rights.

"Now, Etta Rosales, my former colleague, will be named CHR (commissioner). I’m awaiting the papers reaching my office. Can I just point out that Etta was head…She was a very active member when I was senior vice chair in the 11th Congress of the Committee on Civil, Political, and Human Rights at the House. She became chair of the said committee also. She has been a human rights victim herself," Aquino said.
