President Aquino Wednesday appealed to the public to be a little patient with his government in addressing the country’s woes, reiterating that he is not God or Superman.

The President acknowledged that his administration could not immediately resolve people’s complaints, especially those posted on his official website, adding due process must be observed in some cases.

“We appeal for understanding if we cannot immediately act on the problems. We hope you’ll understand not all issues can be answered within minutes,” he said during a press conference in the Palace.

Mr. Aquino admitted that he is too busy to answer all the messages posted on his website although relevant concerns are brought to his attention by his staff.

The Presidential Communications Group recently launched the President’s official website, www.president.gov.ph , to keep the people connected with the government.

As of Wednesday, the website has received more than 127,000 hits from the public.

While admitting that the country’s problems may not be resolved overnight, the President said he welcomes criticisms from some groups on the way he governs the nation.

“We will be the first to say we are not Superman, we are not God, and a healthy dialogue in a democracy should be encouraged,” he said. “There are people who will always look at you in the worst way, who will just endeavor to tie your schedule up. So, I think we will have to utilize our judgment on who we can engage, who we cannot engage,” he said.

He also promised to find time to answer personally some of the messages posted on his website and those sent to his cellular phone. The Chief Executive has kept a private mobile line to keep his privacy.

He confessed that he is overwhelmed by the number of messages he receives on his mobile phone every day but still try to answer them if possible. The President said he gets 20 to 30 messages on his phone daily.

“We have the communications group that helps me answer all of these and if there is a specific issue then we refer it to appropriate department. Then we ask the appropriate department to give us a feedback on what particular action was done,” he said.

Early in the day, the President expressed confidence that his administration will be able to transform society and ease the suffering of the people despite criticisms hurled against his government.

Mr. Aquino called on the Presidential Management Staff to “dedicate a little bit more so we can transform our society even that much faster and ease the sufferings of our people” during the agency’s anniversary rites in the Palace.

He warned them against some groups who would derail the government’s efforts and go on with their crooked ways. “So they will nitpick with everything and anything that we propose to do. They will put up all of the legal obstacles so as to preserve for a longer time their gains that I think are wrong,” he added.

He said he would rely on the PMS to give him “the ammunition to battle all of these nitpicking battles that are coming our way.”
