Palace: Deadly bus mishaps ‘wake-up call’
The latest deadly bus mishaps should serve as “wake-up call” for concerned authorities to strictly enforce the country’s road safety regulations, Malacañang said Sunday.
Ramon Carandang, secretary of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office, said the country has adequate laws and other regulations to ensure safety in land transportation but apparently lack enforcement.
Carandang said they are saddened by the bus tragedy in Benguet province that claimed dozens of lives, as well as the road collision in Camarines Sur that killed a beauty queen and her two companions.
“We hope these accidents would serve as wake-up call to our traffic regulators and other agencies to enforce traffic regulations,” Carandang said over state-run Radyo ng Bayan.
He said the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) should review the enforcement of road safety regulations to save lives.
