WNCAA: Lyceum, PWU, CEU win
Defending champion Lyceum continued its dominance in Group A while host Centro Escolar University and Philippine Women’s University stamped their class in Senior B in the 41st WNCAA tournament over the weekend.
Playing before its home crowd, Lyceum survived a tough challenge of College of St. Benilde, 70-66, to keep the solo lead in its group at 3-0.
CEU, on the other hand, dumped Miriam College, 66-21, to jump to second in the Senior B at 2-1 behind unbeaten PWU (2-0).
Defending champion Miriam and San Beda College-Alabang remained unbeaten in the junior division while De La Salle Zobel is on top of the midgets level – all with 2-0 marks.
San Beda beat St. Paul College Pasig, 53-33; Miriam dominated PWU, 51-13; and DLSZ conquered rookie team Poveda, 43-12, in the tournament being supported by official media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, official print partner Manila Bulletin, Lenovo, Solar Sports, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press.
In volleyball matches at the St. Scholastica gym, Lyceum thwarted San Beda, 25-15, 25-19, 26-24, to join Rizal Technological University on top of the Senior A standings at 2-0.
PWU, meanwhile, overcame a two-set deficit to beat St. Scholastica’s College, 17-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-19, 15-8, to occupy solo top spot at 3-0. CEU is one game behind at 2-0 after stopping Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-17, 25-12, 25-19.
