Jobert Sucaldito resigns from ‘The Buzz’

Unhappy with his “status” on “The Buzz,” showbiz writer Jobert Sucaldito resigned from the showbiz talk show after 11 years.
In his column “Expose” on a local tabloid published Aug. 30, Sucaldito said he felt “unwanted” and “unneeded” since the show reformatted last month.
“Noong nandoon pa si Kris Aquino [former host], mas hindi nila kami kailangan ni Phem [Phoemela Baranda] dahil Kris can carry the show. Pero masaya kami during that time.”
“Since nawala si Kris Aquino sa show at nagdagdag kami ng dalawang hosts (Toni Gonzaga and Charlene Gonzales), parang na-displace kami ni Phoemela Baranda. Totoo nga, Phem does the voiceover na lang while ako naman ini-intro ko ang istoryang ginawa ko for the week,” he wrote.
Prior to the show’s reformat, Sucaldito and Barranda had their own segment together where they sometimes get to interview celebrities. Sucaldito also used to dish out some blind items. The two also hosted the short-lived “I.C.U.” (“Intriga Close-Up”) segment.
“When Kris left the show, parang nataranta ang mga boss namin. Parang sina Toni and Charlene na lang ang iniisip nila. Kami, kung saan-saan na lang itinatapon. I hate that feeling. Sa tanda ko ba namang ito sa industriya ay ipipilit ko pa ba ang sarili ko? Hindi naman ako trying hard, ‘no!” he blurted.
Sucaldito was last seen in the Aug. 22 episode of “Buzz,” during which he interviewed Joko Diaz.
He said he felt “little” because “kailangang ipakiusap pa namin ni Kuya Boy na lagi akong isali sa show every Sunday” and “para pahalagahan ng immediate bosses namin.”
“Alam ko namang mahal nila ako but I hate lang the feeling na kung kalian lang nila maisip na isali ako sa show, du’n lang nila ako papupuntahin. Kung talagang gusto ka nilang ipasok sa show, kaydaling gawan ng paraan iyon… Iyon ay kung mahalaga ka nga? Pero sino nga ba naman ako kumpara kina Charlene at Toni, aber?” he added.
Sucaldito related having a conversation with the show’s executive producer, Nancy Yabut, on Aug. 28.
“Nancy told me that yesterday’s [Aug. 29] show kumbaga was full – half of which ay tungkol kay Ma. Venus Raj and half of the show ay para sa promo ng ‘Sa ’Yo Lamang.’ Sabi ni Nancy sa akin, next Sunday na lang ako pumunta sa ‘The Buzz,’ meaning, hindi ako kasali sa show kahapon. Wala naman akong magagawa, ‘di ba? Alangan namang ipagpilitan ko ang sarili kong sumali sa show when I know that I’m not needed,” he said.
Leaving the show was a “tough decision” to make, Sucaldito added, because he loves “The Buzz.”
However, “the system seems unfavorable for me.”
“Para kasing ‘killing me softly’ ang dating sa akin. Bago pa man ako patayin, might as well, make a firm decision – leave the show na lang para makaplano naman tayo ng iba. Tama?”
Although he is saddened with his decision, Sucaldito believes he needed to do it.
“Mahirap talaga kapag small entity ka lang sa industriyang ito. Para namang wala tayong magagandang kontribusyon. [Pero] may konting respeto pa naman ako sa sarili ko. Hindi ko itatapon ito kailanman,” he said.
In spite of these sentiments, Sucaldito said he is grateful of his co-workers on the show. He also assured his supporters that he will still be with ABS-CBN. “Happy naman ako sa ‘Showbiz Mismo’ sa DZMM kaya du’n na lang tayo magkita-kita’t magkakarinigan,” he said.
He still managed to end his piece on a light note, joking about how he would spend his weekends now.
“Mahirap mag-adjust ngayon dahil nakasanayan mo nang magbihis at magpa-make-up tuwing Linggo pero ngayon, puwede ko nang itulog at ibakasyon ang weekends ko.”
