Villa tops the list as the summer transfer window closes
Football's summer transfer window is officially closed. While there is yet to be a transfer to break Cristiano Ronaldo's record 94 million euro transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid, there have been many high-profile transfers this season.
First on the list is David Villa, whose transfer from Valencia to Barcelona cost the Catalan giants 40 million euros. This makes him this summer's most expensive transfer.
Next on the list is the 30 million euro transfer of Yaya Touré from Barcelona to English club Manchester City.
Mario Balotelli lands on the third spot with his transfer from Inter Milan to Manchester City which costs 29.5 million euros.
Another Manchester City purchase, David Silva finds himself on fourth place with his 26.75 million euro transfer from Valencia.
Capping off the top five is Ángel Di María, who moves from Benfica to Real Madrid with a transfer fee of 25 million euros.
Aleksandar Kolarov is the sixth most expensive summer transfer this season with a 22.7 million euro transfer from Lazio to Manchester City.
James Milner who joins Manchester City from Aston Villa, Yoann Gourcuff who leaves Bordeaux for Lyon, Javier Mascherano who joins Barcelona from Liverpool, Bruno Alves who leaves Porto for Zenit St. Petersburg, Ramires who joins Chelsea from Benfica, and Carlos Eduardo who leaves Hoffeinheim for Rubin Kazan all share the seventh spot with a transfer fee of 22 million euros.
Next is Robinho whose 20 million euro transfer from Manchester City to AC Milan earns him the eight spot.
Mesut Özil is the ninth most expensive summer transfer with his 18 million euro transfer free from Werder Bremem to Real Madrid.
Completing the top ten are André-Pierre Gignac who leaves Toulouse for Marseille and Asamoah Gyan who joins Sunderland from Rennes with 16 million euro transfer fees.
