Great Looks for Men
This season is the best time to wear more accessories, and to change things up a bit when it comes to layering and color matching. The wet and cold season presents one of the greatest opportunities for a guy to showcase his personal style. Here are the newest fashion trends for men’s clothing and grooming tips from Paul Smith’s Fall/Winter collection.
The Swank
The men of the world are pleased with the fashions they have been dealt over the past year or so; therefore many of them have decided to just combine what they have learned. Mixing plaid jackets with cool tees and colored cardigans plus oxford shoes. This season, many guys are opting to be fashion connoisseurs, their phrase, “we collect fashion, we create style.”
TIPS: Men are lucky. Menswear trends change so slowly allowing them to revel in trends for quite some time. Dare to be different by adding your own spins on the hottest trends.
GET THE LOOK: Printed jacket, cardigan, loafers, glasses, graphic tees, harem pants, torn jeans.
GROOMING: A face powder is useful if you want to give pale skin a bit more color. Pick up a small amount of powder on the end of a powder brush and dust lightly over your forehead and face. Apply slightly more heavily to the upper cheekbones to give them definition. Alternatively, consider using a tinted moisturizer to create a similar effect. Once you’ve applied your makeup, try to not touch your face during the day, this will cause the makeup to rub off and give away the fact that you’re wearing some in the first place!
The Urban Artist
The Urban Artist is a look for fashionable, artistic, and outgoing gentlemen who prefer to look cosmopolitan and approachable while still looking professional and put-together. The fashion story behind this look is one of approachability, pragmatism, and a youthful extroversion that is playful and bereft of pretense.
TIPS: Pairing this very passive detailing with richly colored and patterned accessories will be where you earn the greatest points. A plum colored, paisley-printed wool or cotton scarf—for example—will draw a lot of attention and compliments.
GET THE LOOK: Colored cardigan, full turtleneck, thick corduroys, dark denim jeans, dark gray pants.
GROOMING: You can achieve a similar look by enhancing your wavy hair and adding drama. While hair is still damp, put a little bit of product on your fingertips at a time and, section by section, scrunch the hair applying the product to the mid lengths and ends. Either let the hair dry naturally or encourage waves by using a diffuser attachment on a hair dryer. Consider using a neutral-colored lip balm for this look. This will enhance the shine and color of your lips. Apply a small amount using your finger.
Old-school Dapper
Being polished, being perfect, being well groomed—these are the makings of a conservative man. He gets his haircut every week, he gets his shoes shined, he opens the door for a lady, he knows to undo the lower button on his two-button suit jacket when sitting down, and to just as quickly button it up as he stands. This, is the man that women dream of.
TIPS: There have been so many styles in men’s fashion these days that this look, Conservative Dapper, is a relaxing break from it all. It’s a return to simpler, easier, classic times. This is my favorite trend for the season.
GET THE LOOK: Coats, suits, crisp, white buttondowns, perfectly polished lace-ups.
GROOMING: Makeup isn’t just for women.Get your own concealer. Your concealer should always be one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. When buying a concealer, ask your girlfriend to see how it compares to your skin tone —if possible do this in daylight rather than under fluorescent lights. The key to this look is a neat-looking countenance. Hide those pimple marks and dark circles! Don’t forget to shave!
