The moment Robert Garcia was told about the possibility of Antonio Margarito fighting Manny Pacquiao, the American trainer immediately stuffed his living room with videos of the Filipino’s fights.

“I have been watching a lot of Pacquiao’s fights on video,” said Garcia, who is Margarito’s trainer.

And when it was finally announced that Pacquiao and Margarito are indeed squaring off for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) super-welterweight crown on November 13 in Dallas, Garcia’s pulse raced again.

Compared to Pacquiao’s master trainer Freddie Roach, Garcia is just a newbie although he has been credited widely for his previous works with Brian Viloria and a handful of promising punchers. He also is currently the chief trainer of Nonito Donaire.

Garcia admits Pacquiao is going to pose a lot of problems for the long-armed but slow-footed Margarito. But he said that with proper training, the 35-year-old former world super-featherweight champion is capable of shocking the world.

When Pacquiao and Margarito graced a press conference in Beverly Hills earlier in the week, Garcia told the media congregation to “expect an upset.”

Garcia appears so excited about the 5-11 Margarito’s chances against the 5-foot-6 Pacquiao that he has been requiring his fighter to take advantage of whatever available free time during the on-going promotional tour to work out a sweat.

Margarito is scheduled to officially begin his 10-week preparation for Pacquiao this Monday in Oxnard, California.
