Manila, Philippines - The University of the East Warriors, playing with nothing at stake but pride, defeated the De La Salle Green Archers 80-74 in today's first game of the 73rd UAAP basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

The game meant more to the Green Archers who were trying to position themselves for the number 3 spot and avoid an early collission with the leading FEU Tamaraws.

Prior to the game, DLSU and Adamson were tied for third place with 8-4 record. DLSU now has an 8-5 card.

Warrior Paul Lee, who was practically shut down in the first half with the Green Archer’s pesky defense, eventually finished with 19 points to go with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

The match was close until the fourth quarter where the Warriors went on a scoring rampage. Halftime ended at 40-all and the third quarter score was 56-all.

Raffy Reyes made 17 points to support Lee while Paul Zamar and James Martinez also made key hits for the well-deserved win.
