MMDA plans to put up alternative terminals for provincial buses
Manila, Philippines – In a move to ease the traffic condition along Epifanio de los Santos Ave. (EDSA) and areas in the metropolis, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is considering putting up alternative terminal points for provincial buses.
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino told listeners of MMDA radio program there is a need for provincial bus terminals to transfer in strategic but with spacious locations to reduce the number of provincial buses plying major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
A dialogue between provincial bus operators and concerned government agencies will be held to discuss the proposed putting up of terminals designed to accommodate provincial buses operating in Metro Manila, aimed to lessen the worsening traffic condition in the metropolis, Tolentino said.
Initially, Taguig and Caloocan are being considered as alternative terminal points with rooms “big enough for buses to move easily in and out of the station,” he said.
Under the scheme, there will be connecting shuttles that would transport the commuters to the bus terminals, particularly near MRT, LRT stations.
