DAVAO CITY—Host Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club went eight-for-eight in pulling off a rare sweep of all team and individual awards disputed in the opening leg of the 11th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour here over the weekend.

Three close victories in the team competition and several exciting windups in the individual battles highlighted a dominating show by the fired-up Davao contingent which zoomed ahead in the Club of the Year competition with 60 points.

Vincent Gumapac-Ronald Galicia (Group I), Paul Anthony Dakudao-Noe Taojo (Group 2) and Carlito Dublan-Diemy Monedero (Seniors) won their respective divisions by five points or less while Josue Tesado-Eugenio Serado Jr. took Group 3 by 20 points to complete the team sweep for Palos Verdes.

More trophies came for Palos Verdes in the individual play as Galicia (Class A), Dakudao (Class B), Monedero (seniors), Jaime Tan Jr. (Class C) and Sam Strong (Class D) emerged the winners.

It was the best performance in a leg by a club so far and Palos needed a little luck to make it happen.

Dakudao and Monedero won tiebreakers while Tan averted a second round meltdown to win by one.

Galicia led a 1-2 finish with Dennis Capa for Palos and Strong rallied to top his division by three.

In the team event, Rancho Verdes left the rest of the field fighting for the something else other than the winner’s trophy to finish with a perfect 60 points.
