The Switch is On
A few months back we finally had our home renovated after being damaged by the famous typhoon “Ondoy” and just like any other construction projects, as expected, every bit of detail entails careful planning, superb execution and lots of budget!
Well, we were actually prepared for all of those down from every bit of nail, sack of cement or gallon of paint. In the end, we were satisfied. Everything seemed to blend in together and so I thought until the topic of lighting came along. Sad to say, I didn’t think of lighting that much. Come to think of it, I didn’t think of it at all. I guess I stopped with choosing the lighting fixtures and setting aside what kind of bulbs that goes with it thinking that, “anything that’ll fit (and lights) will do”. Well, not so true. This I came to know when I read about “Philips Simply Brighter” campaign and with the help of Ms Christine of Philips, I was able to understand and actually know the difference of what I once took for granted.
Though it s true that lighting or brightness have always been taken for granted or overlooked on most homes, it is because of this fact that Philips has gone on a limb to educate Filipino homes on the right kind of home lighting because Philips believe that “a brighter home is a happier home”.
Based on numerous researches, lighting has indeed an impact on human physiology. Brightness of light in particular showed significant impact on the alertness of people and what Philips has been trying to educate and inculcate in us, is that if proper lighting is integrated within our homes then appropriate atmosphere or ambiance that exudes an aura of peace, comfort and joy can be established; much of what most homeowner’s are actually looking for.
With all these in mind, without hesitation I took on the challenge of having most if not all of my light bulbs changed and based on what we had removed, I found out that 30 to 40% of the lights that we had were still standard incandescent lamps. I guess these were the few once that I haven’t replaced with CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) bulbs because they technically haven’t “burned out” yet.
Not so happy with that thought though considering I should be minimizing our energy consumption. Nevertheless, it’s never too late to start saving, so out with the old and in with the new. Light bulbs were all willingly replaced by Philips’ energy savers or CFL’s. It is one of the simplest, uncomplicated and inexpensive way of saving energy without compromising the quality of brightness as all of the Philips’ CFL’s are actually 20 to 30% brighter compared to other energy saving brands.
Much of our lights were replaced by Philips Tornado especially on rooms that are usually busy like the kitchen, lanai and foyer. Since these rooms are the busiest and are always occupied, the Philips Tornado was the perfect choice as it is the brightest in Philips’ CFL family. Furthermore, it gives up to 80% energy saving when compared to a standard incandescent lamp. Other rooms were replaced with Philips Brightboost. It is Philips’ most innovative fluorescent lamp that is 30% brighter and gives out true colors and when they say “true colors” it really does give out the real color in you. I so appreciated this when it was installed on my dresser and all these without demanding much energy.
Clearly, knowledge is key. Knowing what is available out there made a lot of difference. It answered a lot of my questions and definitely minimized a lot of my confusion and with Philips, just imagine what I can save by just simply turning my house to a brighter and happier home.
