12 fights in URCC University Challenge

Twelve bouts, including three that will feature promising fighters from La Salle, await mixed martial arts (MMA) fans when the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) holds its Colt 45 University Challenge on September 18 at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati City.

Jojo Tabang, who is expected to rely on his speed and power, spearheads the campaign of the Taft-based fighters against equally exciting combatants in the event presented by Colt 45 and backed by Tribal Gear, Alaxan FR, SolarTV and Solar Sports.

The two other La Salle fighters are Kevin dela Cruz and Meshaal Al-Khuzeem.

Tabang will be fighting in the pinweight category while dela Cruz and Al-Khuzeem see action in the lightweight division of the event also supported by E-Games, 99.5RT, NU 107, Rogue Magazine, Pinoy Exchange, Synermaxx, Yoshinoya and Chris Sports.

Also with three entries is Olivarez College while University of the East and University of Perpetual Help Dalta System will field two of its best fighters in the event that will determine which school has the best MMA fighter.

San Beda, Adamson, Letran, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, University of Regina Carmeli, STI, AMA-East Rizal, Manila Central University, Our Lady of Fatima University, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Criminology, Lyceum and University of the Philippines will have one each in the tournament serving as their stepping stone for bigger URCC event.

“The event is actually their launching pad, if they perform well, then we will encourage them to train further so that they will have a chance to see action in the international tournaments, beginning with the one in Singapore,” said URCC president and founder Alvin Aguilar. “Just like in our first staging of the event, we expect hard and exciting action from these guys.”
