Lawmaker and concert promoter Ronald V. Singson, accused of drug trafficking in Hong Kong, asked the court Tuesday to defer his plea arraignment as he is undergoing medical treatment.

Singson’s lawyer, John Reading, asked the court to move the arraignment until such time that his client receives his medical report.

Judge Kevin Browne approved and moved the hearing to Oct. 19. He also extended the lawmaker’s bail.

Singson was mum on the matter when he met reporters outside the court.

“I can’t talk about it,” he mumbled in front of cameras.

Waiting for Singson outside was her baby daughter, who, in a gesture of affection, he kissed in front of media people. His rumored movie star girlfriend Lovi Poe wasn't around, however, unlike last month when Singson the court.

Early on, Singson's father, the 69-year-old political Kingpin Chavit Singson, intimated in interviews that the drug case is “a set-up.”

Poe, on the other hand, said she “doesn’t believe” the accusation leveled at the congressman.

Singson was allowed to post a bail of $1.5 million (P8.7 million) on Aug. 19, after authorities found out that the actual weight of the illegal drugs found in his possession was less than what was originally reported.

He was barred from traveling back home, however, until his case is resolved.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, Singson admitted that “much has changed in him” since the matter unfurled.

He revealed that more than himself, he is more concerned about how his family felt; and as such, he said, he is trying to be strong for them.

“[I try] to block off everything especially emotional aspects. Like, gusto ako dalawin ng mother ko, gusto ako dalawin ng family ko, sabi ko, ‘Wag na lang.’ Kasi no matter how good it feels if its only temporary parang masakit ‘yun. Lalo na pag dadalawin ka tapos [makikita ka lang through a] plexi-glass,” he explained.

Singson disclosed that he was bothered when news of the recent hostage crisis that gripped the country reached him, especially since he thought it might somehow affect his case.

"Kinabahan ako ng konti dahil alam ko makakaapekto, with regards to public opinion. With regards to the justice system naman, umaasa naman ako at may tiwala naman ako sa hustisya dito,” said he.
