SEREMBAN, Malaysia – Another team from the Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) made it to the Final Four as its 50-years squad – despite the dubious fouls called against its star players – clobbered the host province, 76-62, in the 19th ASEAN Veterans Invitational Basketball Tournament Tuesday at the Negri Recreational Club here.
Former PBA star Elmer Reyes produced another vintage performance as he glided to the basket with grace – just like what he used to do in the 80s – while Eduard Tio and ex-San Miguel Beer player Kenneth Yap came through with clutch baskets in the final half as the Filipinos completed a two-game sweep of their group elimination in the centerpiece event of the tournament.
Supported by Jimi Lim of Ironcon, FCVBA also swept its group elimination in the 60-years division by downing the host squad, 66-41, big thanks to former La Salle ace Lim Eng Beng and University of Visayas’ Zotico Tan. — Rey Lachica
