James Yap Undergoes Surgery

Manila, Philippines — B-Meg Derby Ace superstar James Yap, the reigning PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), will go under the knife this Friday to remove a polyp that has bothered his nasal passage the past couple of years.
Yap said it’s “nothing serious” although he decided to have the polyp removed, which according to him is now the size of a “grape.”
“It affects my breathing. I have this polyp a couple of years now, so my doctor advised me to have it remove,” said Yap on the operation set to take place at the St. Luke’s Hospital.
The 6-foot-3 Yap will have a week-long rest before rejoining the Llamados’ practice session in preparation for their title-retention bid in the PBA Philippine Cup starting in October.
Newly-installed B-Meg mentor George Gallent said that he’s not worried with the condition of Yap, who already had two practice sessions since returning from a brief vacation from the United States.
What Gallent is concerned of is the situation of his team, which will miss Kerby Raymundo and Marc Pingris.
Raymundo already underwent hip operation in the US last Wednesday day while Pingris will be evaluated if he has to go to a similar hip surgery.
“I hope everything turns out ok (for Raymundo and Pingris),” said Gallent, who got free agent Gerwin Gaco to solidify the team’s frontline that includes KG Canaleta, Rafi Reavis, Don Allado, Jondan Salvador and rookie Pari Llagas.
“The replacements we got are doing ok together with the other veterans. I hope they step up, we just have to play with intensity,” added Gallent, whose goal is for B-Meg to make it to the semifinals outright.
