Annual PR Congress Slated on Sept. 23 to 24
The Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PSP) is holding its annual PR Congress on September 23 to 24, 2010 with this year’s theme revolving around the rapid changes in the practice of PR and communication.
PRSP president Butch Raquel noted that this year’s theme will be on the advent of personalized communications and social media and the challenges and opportunities in building brands and communities of advocates.
Raquel said this year’s PR Congress is the first of its kind to bring in international and local experts to provide insights on the new media that is not only changing how people communicate, but also changing the culture of business.
Raquel said this is part of the organization’s continuing efforts to increase awareness of PRSP’s commitment to elevate the standards of public relations.
Aside from the Congress, PRSP has been conducting social outreach services, charity work, and a lecture series on continuing education for members and PR trends.
According to this year’s PRSP vice president-external and PR Congress head John Rojo, this year PR Congress, dubbed PR2.0 Build. Engage. Deliver, will fly in speakers led by Tim Sutton, Chairman of Weber Shandwick Asia Pacific and Andrew Thomas, Managing Director and SEA Director of Ogilvy PR worldwide.
Sutton is one of the global PR industry’s most respected practitioners and has an outstanding track record in public issues advocacy and brand strategy on behalf of some of the world’s best known blue chip clients.
Meanwhile, Thomas spent 10 years managing the business operations of the International Herald Tribune in South Asia before joining Ogilvy PR. Having managed a number of successful regional businesses, he understands the complexity of the communications business from both the agency and client perspective.
Rojo said joining the speakers is digital strategist Kevin Lim of Fleishman Hillard-Malaysia. Lim authors a thought leadership opinion column for Advertising & Marketing magazine and appears on a bi-monthly video talk show on technology trends and issues.
The event also brings together a good mix of leading communication and new media experts: Philippine Star columnist Boo Chanco, Word-of-Mouth pioneer Brad Geiser, social community manager Jonas de los Reyes of Yahoo, digital marketing thought-leader Leah Besa-Jimenez of BBDO Guerrero Proximity, new media for news conglomerate ABS-CBN Charie Villa, highly respected editor Joanne Maglipon, prominent social marketing advocate and Rock-Ed Philippines founder Gang Badoy, marketing expert Margot Torres of McDonalds and media metrics expert Cyril Ng of MediaBanc.
