Pery Shines in Final GT Race
CLARK, Pampanga – Joey Pery scored a big sweep while William Tan formally bagged the overall crown recently in the championship round of the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships this Thursday at the Clark International Speedway here.
Pery, a veteran of Miata Cup racing, displayed excellent driving under heavy rain to rule both the Sprint and GT Main Races of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, PAGCOR Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
With the absence of Ford Focus-TRS top bet Mike Tuason and Tan haunted by engine problems, everything went smoothly for Pery on the sixth lap as he finished the 10-lap Sprint race in 23 minutes and 50.778 seconds or a far 11.893 seconds ahead of runner-up Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors.
Leo San Juan checked in third while Ford Focus-TRS drivers Sean Redpath and Bobby Horrigan came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Despite the slippery track, Pery showed consistency as he dominated the GT Main Race, clocking 39 minutes and 8.126 seconds to win the pennant.
His victory, however, was not enough to stop Tan from claiming the overall title. On the strength of his 270 points, Tan bagged the overall title while Tuason wound up second with 192 with Perry finishing third with 143.
Uy and San Juan wound up with 114 and 105 points, respectively.
Tan likewise captured the overall GT200 title over 295 points up against Pery and third placer Uy who ended with 161 and 154 points, respectively.
