MANILA, Philippines — People have been told not to play with fire unless one gets burned, but for Tribal Dancers, doing so is just another day at work.

TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy” alumnae and Hall of Famers, the Tribal Dancers once again set the stage on fire and wowed the crowd composed mostly of the media when they performed at the launch of the McCormick Buffalo Wings Seasoning Mix last Oct. 27 at the Fiamma Bar in Makati.

Sisters Zam and Mench and their cousin Grace and Zam’s best friend, Liezl, make up the Tribal Dancers. Hailing from Muntinlupa City, the group was formed about two years ago. Initially they only performed their signature tribal dance whenever they were invited to perform at events, hence the name. They began incorporating poll dancing after Zam's brother, Zamboy, taught them how to do it.

It’s now been more than a year since the group appeared on “Talentadong Pinoy.” Since then, they’ve been invited to perform at different events and even at shows from other networks.

“Every month, meron kaming guesting sa TV5. Hindi nila kami pinapabayaan,” Zam, who stands as the group’s leader and spokesperson, shared. “From start ng March 6 na naglaban-laban kami ('Talentadong Pinoy Battle of the Champions'), may mga guestings pa kaming dumating: ‘PO5,’ ‘Everybody Hapi,’ “Talentadong Pinoy’…minsan two times a month nagpeperform pa rin kami sa kanila,” she said.

Their stunt becomes even more impressive in light of their medical conditions. Zam and Mench have poor eyesight while Liezl has poor hearing due to damaged ear nerves. It takes a lot of work, the girls say, but they manage by helping out each other through signals and gestures.

The Tribal Dancers looks forward to holding shows abroad. “Kaso hindi pa rin kami ready kasi wala pa kaming mga visa,” Zam shares.

“Inaasikaso namin ngayon 'yung passport para hopefully someday, ma-experience din namin. Ito na 'yung naigiging way namin, siguro 'yung way ni God para marating namin 'yung iba't-ibang lugar, ma-experience namin, then 'yung aming talent i-share.”
