Butterfly Twists need not sacrifice comfort for style

"Sacrifice a little comfort for fashion,” is a saying we women hear too often, it should be a bumper sticker. It’s one thing to be sacrificing a few carbohydrates to fit into a desired size, but another to wear high heels. In a study, over 60 percent of 5,000 women aged 16 to 35 have admitted to complaining that their feet hurt once a week, and most of the time it is from wearing high heels.

This is according to Butterfly Twists, a patented, fold-away footwear brand from the United Kingdom. As a response to the problem, the brand has developed flats made from silicone rubber sole, a soft and lightweight insole, and an elastic satin upper, which allows it to fold in four places and reducing it to a triangular shape. This makes the shoe portable, giving women the opportunity to conveniently bring and change into it whenever their feet are sore.

The product seems to have been effective as it has become a smashing success in the UK and some countries across Europe. It has recently expanded to the United States, Japan, Singapore, and, just recently, it made its debut here in the Philippines.

Fittingly, Butterfly Twists was brought here in the country by Trina Franco-Molina, Dixie Lynn Tan, and Tessa Mauricio-Arriola, three young entrepreneurs from Manila who believed in “practical fashion and beautiful simplicity.”

Mauricio-Arriola says that “Butterfly Twists is a necessity for the modern woman because she is always on the go as a portable pair of shoes can give instant relief from the pain caused by high heels that are commonly worn to work, and even when going out at night.” She adds that a satin pair from Butterfly Twists is very stylish and assures us that one need not worry about sacrificing fashion.

“It’s high time for this certain evolution in footwear that addresses working girls’ needs. Well, tiis-ganda might be the option we often like to take in dressing, but with this new innovation, sacrificing for fashion need not be the norm,” says Belle, 26, a News Editor.

Butterfly Twists is looking to be not just being a trend, but a necessity for the working Filipina.
