MANILA, Philippines — President Aquino said on Tuesday that Malacañang is open to any amendments on Presidential Proclamation No. 50 granting amnesty to soldiers who held three uprisings during the Arroyo administration.

The Chief Executive also said that pinpointing to the mistake made by the mutineers should already be put to an end.

“We want to close that chapter, yan siguro ang pangunahin diyan [I think that should be first and foremost],” Aquino said, in  reaction to proposals made by Sen. Joker Arroyo that the mutineers, including Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, should first admit their mistake of conducting an uprising against the previous administration.

Aquino said that the proposal for granting amnesty to the mutineers, including Sen. Trillanes, initially came from the Senate.

“’Di naman nagmula sa amin yung mungkahi sa amnesty, nauna yata ang Senado na magmungkahi ng amnesty [The proposal for the amnesty did not initially come from us, it was the Senate which first made the proposal],” he said.

“So inaasahan po natin na nasa pag-uusap naman po yan [So we’re expecting that this would be solved by means of discussions],” he added, citing that there are three branches of government and that the Executive branch is ready to listen to what the Legislative branch has to say.

“Pagmamahalan sa kapwa ang importanteng bagay [Love for neighbor is important],” he added.

Aquino thus reiterated that Malacañang is ready to amend Proclamation No. 50.

“We recognize the fact that we’re all humans and things will be improved,” he said.
