Cavite town launches Valenciana Festival
CAVITE, Philippines — The municipality of General Trias in the province of Cavite will hold its 1st Valenciana Festival Sunday at the town plaza, which coincides with the municipality’s 262nd founding anniversary.
Highlights of the one-week event include the simultaneous eating, demo cooking, and displays of Velenciana with Cavite Governor Juanito Victor ‘Jonvic’ Remulla Jr. as guest of honor and speaker.Remulla has expressed his support in promoting the Valenciana as a signature dish of General Trias.
Mayor Luis ‘Jon-Jon’ Ferrer IV and his Performance Team are spearheading the festival in an effort to promote cultural awareness, to celebrate the importance of true blue Gentriaseños, and also to attract tourists and investors to come and witness the festivities.
In celebration of its rich legacy, the local folks will relive the past and celebrate the present through the Velenciana Festival which also aims to support the government’s one town, one product (OTOP) campaign.
Valenciana is a special cuisine of Gentriaseños that was inherited from the Spaniards during the early times. The dish is derived from the Paella Valenciana, which originated in Spain. It is a one-pan peasant’s dish made of rice, vegetables, saffron, chicken, and seafood.
The General Trias’ way of cooking Valenciana is famous all over the province of Cavite and the dish has become a favorite staple in almost every gathering.
