U.P. Press named publisher of the year

The University of the Philippines Press was named Publisher of the Year at the 29th National Book Awards held at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.

Handed out yearly by the Manila Critics Circle and the National Book Development Board, the National Book Awards recognize the best of the previous year’s locally published books. The 29th National Book Awards feted the best books published in 2009.

This is the UP Press’ third time to be named Publisher of the Year, having previously received the honor in 1996 and 2002.

'Power and Privilege' launched
“Power and Privilege: Essays on Politics, Economics and Government” by columnist Rene Azurin was recently launched by Anvil Publishing.

The book provides students with a critical understanding of what public policies will best serve the general welfare. By introducing crucial elements of history, political and economic theory, social psychology and philosophy on public issues.

“Power and Privilege” is Asurin’s second book with Anvil Publishing. The first book, entitled “Power Without Virtue” received international praise and positive reviews for tis incisive analysis of Philippine government and the different administrations.
