Garden show to highlight native plants

The Philippine Horticultural Society, Inc. (PHSI), in cooperation with the Manila Seedling Bank Environmental Center, will be having their annual garden show entitled “HORTICULTURE 2011: Urban Gardens.” The show, which will feature native plants, opens on January 29 and will run until February 7. It happens at the Manila Seedling Bank, EDSA corner Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.
Highlights will include an exhibit of popular plants such as selected ferns (Asplenium nidus, Platycerium grande, Microsorum sp), orchids (Phalaenopsis species, Dendrobium species, Grammatophyllums, Coelogyne, and others), aroids (Alocasia species, Amorphophallus,) Hoya vines, Nepenthes, native flowering trees, Passion flowers, Palms, Cycads, and a lot more.
We all tend to favor imported plants species and it's time to be more cognizant of the beauty and importance of our native plants, Our plants are truly Filipino, recognized and sought-after worldwide. They’re well worth conserving.
With the Wild Life Act in effect, it is the role of Filipinos to save and conserve our remaining plant species from extinction. It is imperative to value, propagate, and nurture these plants and include them in our gardens. Most of them are valuable and aren’t mere weeds.
Aside from the usual plant and landscape exhibits, the show will also hold free lectures and have a commercial area selling assorted garden plants and accessories. Other plants like cacti, succulents, bromeliads, tillandsias, carnivorous plants, fruit trees, Euphorbias, Anthuriums, bonsai, aquatic plants, and flowering shrubs are also available.
Come and visit, and enjoy the beauty of landscaped Philippine plants!
