MANILA, Philippines — Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes prefers a lawyer to an IT (information technology) expert for poll commissioner.

He said he would rather that President Benigno S. Aquino III appoint a lawyer for poll commissioner because of the kind of work in the Comelec.

“The President and I talked about this already. He was asking my opinion and he was suggesting an IT commissioner. I told him…. a commissioner will be handling more legal proceedings, hearings,” Brillantes said in a recent press briefing.

“The work of the commissioners is more on handling and resolving cases, and an IT commissioner won’t be able to assist, because law is not his line of work,” he added.

Besides, Brillantes said the Comelec can always hire an impartial IT expert to help them.
