D.L.S.U.-D. holds street dance contest
MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) will hold a modern street dance competition dubbed “Dare to Move: The Ultimate Streetdance Showdown” on Feb. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m at Le Pavillion, Metropolitan Park in Pasay City.
Spearheaded by its College of International Hospitality and Management (CIHM), the competition will be a venue for the Filipino youth to showcase their remarkable talents and flair in street and contemporary dance.
Ten different high schools coming from the CALABARZON and Metro Manila will exhibit their dauntless moves as they battle for championship. The jury consists of some of the country’s well-known dancers such as Aira Bermudez, member of the Sexbomb Dancers; Joy Cancio, producer and manager of Sexbomb Dancers; and Jay Roncesvalles, member of XB Gensan.
Former MYX VJ Marco Mañalac will host the competition.
The champion will receive Php30,000 and a special plaque while the second and third placers will bag P10,000 and P5,000 respectively.
Two of DLSU-D’s official performing arts groups, the Lasallian Points and Flexes Dance Company and Lasallian Pop Band will also perform in the show as well as Showtime champion XB Gensan.

Ayala Young Leaders Congress makes way for 81 delegates
Eighty-one of the most promising youth leaders in the country are expected to attend the 13th National Ayala Young Leaders Congress from Feb. 8 to 11, at the San Miguel Corporation Management Training Center in Alfonso, Cavite.
The four-day congress aims to further enhance their leadership skills and build bonds with like-minded peers from all over the country. Themed "Leadership: Serving, Transforming, Sustaining," the congress underscores the need to bring about lasting transformation in the country.
Delegates to the Ayala group's annual youth leadership program come from a broad range of disciplines and are chosen not only for academic excellence but also for their involvement in school or community development.
A total of 722 nominees from colleges and state universities all over the Philippines sent in their applications for AYLC 2011. Paper screening and panel interviews with Ayala group executives yielded 81 delegates from 44 higher education institutions, which include the Philippine Military Academy, the Philippine National Police Academy, the Pamulaan Center for Indigenous Peoples Education, and the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary.
The delegates will be joined by notable figures from government, business, and the socio-civic and arts sectors, which include: Dr. Chelsea Calcado, a rural health physician of the Integrated Provincial Health Office of Negros Oriental; Chris Tiu, a TV personality, athlete, businessman and barangay official in Makati City; and Marites Vitug, co-founder and board member of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism. Sec. Jose Rene D. Almendras of the Department of Energy, and former president of Manila Water Company, will keynote the congress.
