MANILA, Philippines — As anti-carnaping bills pile up before the House of Representatives’ committee on public order, lawmakers batted for immediate action on the said measures that would guarantee continuous imprisonment of a minimum 30 years for carnappers.

Reps. Salvio Fortuno (LP, Camarines Sur) and Josephine Veronique Lacson-Noel (NPC, Malabon) aired strong confidence that the bills that would make carnapping a non-bailable offense.

Over a dozen congressmen, have filed bills batting for stricter anti-carnapping provisions in response to appeals aired by the police and victims who view the current law too soft against criminals.

The brutal murders of car dealers Benson Evangelista, Emerson Lozano and Ernane Sensil have also prodded lawmakers to pursue the bills. (Ben Rosario)
