5-year-old boy perishes, 2,000 families homeless as fire hits QC
MANILA, Philippines – A five-year-old boy burned to death while six other were hurt during a five-hour fire that hit a neighborhood in Quezon City, leaving 2,000 families homeless.
The charred remains of Manny Martinez, 5, was recovered from what was left of his home which was among the 500 houses destroyed by fire in Barangay Bahay Toro.
Fire investigator FO2 Jess Gealon said the victim was believed to have been trapped inside his home after being left behind by his family during the commotion.
Gealon noted that six other residents were also hurt during the fire. They were identified as Claro Dequina, 40, who sustained back shoulder burns; Jay-ar Sevilla, 22, puncture wound in the left arm; Nestor Concepcion, 39, burned right arm; Manolo Arcega, 48, laceration in his left back; Florencio Arcega, 42, abrasion in his extremities and burned arms; and Alpha Purificacion, 6, hyperthermia.
The investigator said the fire first originated from the home of Carlito Mabutin at No. 98 Sinagtala Homes, Barangay Bahay Toro.
