NEWARK, New Jersey (AFP) – Carmelo Anthony has denied a report that a deal had been reached to send him to the New Jersey Nets.

"No meeting has been set, so honestly I really don't know where that came from," said Anthony in Los Angeles for the NBA's all-star game on Sunday.

"I'm ready for something to just happen...I'm just ready for this whole thing to just be over with."

The Record newspaper reported Friday that Anthony would join New Jersey under terms of a tentative trade deal worked out with the Denver Nuggets that still needs his approval.

Terms of the deal would require Anthony, who is averaging 25.2 points and 7.6 rebounds a game for the Nuggets, to sign a three-year contract extension worth 65 million dollars, and that is the sticking point, unnamed sources told the suburban New York newspaper.

The Nets, who require Anthony's agreement to an extension to make the deal, were expected to try and meet with him this weekend in Los Angeles at the NBA all-star game, where Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov of Russia, general manager Billy King and part-owner/entertainer Jay-Z are also in attendance.

Anthony is from New York and the New York Knicks have also been interested in him, but the Nets are planning to play in a new arena being built in New York's Brooklyn borough starting in 2012 and Anthony is from Brooklyn.
