MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Ralph Recto has pushed for the extension of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Act which is set to expire on December 2011.

Recto said that there is a need to extend the implementation of the AFP Modernization program until Dec. 31, 2021, in order to provide adequate time for the government to accomplish this objective as mandated by Republic Act No. 7898.

R.A. No. 7898, otherwise known as the AFP Modernization Act, provides for the implementation of a comprehensive modernization program for the military with the end in view of upgrading its capability to a level where it can fully and effectively perform its constitutional mandate to uphold the sovereignty and preserve the patrimony of the Republic of the Philippines.
