Binay hopeful on Kuwait visit
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar C. Binay said Friday that the government hopes to further enhance the ties of the Philippines and Kuwait when he represents President Aquino in the oil-rich kingdom's 50th national day celebrations this weekend.
Binay who was scheduled to leave Friday afternoon, said that a special envoy onboard a chartered plane was even sent by Kuwait to invite the President to the event.
Kuwait's celebrations however coincided with the Philippines' own commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the People Power Revolution in 1986 which prevented Aquino from leaving the country.
"I will represent the President because he is busy with the activities for the EDSA (People Power) anniverasay. They’ve (Kuwait government) been important and we have to take note that there are a lot of OFWs in Kuwait," Binay said.
Ambassador Shulan Primavera reportedly said that the Philippines greatly appreciates the invitation extended by HH the Amir and for understanding the Philippine President's absence. (JC Bello Ruiz)
