TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Office in Manila is set to conduct its investigation into the implementation of various infrastructure projects in Eastern Samar last year.

Eastern Samar Rep. Ben P. Evardone said that DPWH Secretary Rogelio J. Singson had informed him that a special DPWH probe team will be sent to Eastern Samar to look into the implementation of various infrastructure projects funded in the billions of pesos last year.

"Secretary Singson assured me during our meeting that he will be sending a special team to Eastern Samar to investigate the implementation of billions worth of infrastructure projects last year," Rep. Evardone said.

Evardone said he paid a visit to Singson recently and this was one of the issues issues they discussed during their meeting.

He said top in the list of urgent matters that the team will look into is the asphalting of the road from Borongan City to the southern parts of Eastern Samar. The condition of said road has deteriorated only a few months after it was completed, indicating that substandard materials were used in its making.

Various sectors in Eastern Samar, particularly the transport sector and the riding public , have been complaining no end about the agonizing six-hour long road trip they have to bear when traveling from the provincial capital, Borongan, to Tacloban City.

In an interview last year, former DPWH Eastern Samar District Engineer Ernesto G. Paderes Jr. said road rehabilitation projects effected on the national road was done by the DPWH regional office based in Candahug, in Palo, Leyte.
