Web-based education now in Benguet
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Hundreds of schools in this vegetable-producing province will be among the institutions in the country that will benefit from the advancement of information and communication technology to cope up with the latest trends in basic and higher education.
This developed as the province was chosen as one of the pilot areas for the CheckMySchool.org, a website that serves as a mechanism by which the public could monitor the government’s performances in providing basic education services, especially in rural areas where there is difficulty of access to communication facilities.
Earlier, the Department of Education and the provincial government signed an agreement with the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific for the implementation of the project in the different towns of Benguet.
By accessing the aforesaid website, a person could get information on the services and facilities provided to public schools, such as the school’s existing budget, number of students enrolled, number of teaching staff, textbooks, classrooms, toilets and test performances or proficiency ratings.
The web-based monitoring system on the status of education in the country will be a tool for social accountability, especially in determining the quality of education delivered in the countryside, officials said.
Through the website, the group could engage the people in checking how government resources are used with the end in view of significantly improving the delivery of basic education services to the grassroots level.
