Nolcom welcomes new AFP chief

CAMP AQUINO,Tarlac City — Officials and personnel of the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) on Tuesday welcomed and vowed to fully support the new Chief of Staff (TDCS), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Lt. Gen. Eduardo SL. Oban Jr, for his significant plans and advocacy strategic and modernization changes in the AFP.

Lt. Col Rosendo Armas, Nolcom spokesperson said that his commander here guaranteed that despite some crisis in the AFP this command still intact and support all programs and plans of changes in order of the new policies of the AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo SL. Oban Jr.

The Nolcom is preparing for the first visit of the new AFP Chief of Staff here.

Lt. Gen. Oban Jr. before he took his position, he gave full support assisting the former of AFP Chief Staff Gen. Ricardo A. David Jr. on command decision making process and policy formulation for the past six months.

"Bayanihan, will succeed Gen. David Jr. who is retiring after more than 37 years of military service.

The new chief of staff hails from Castilla, Sorsogon and is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Matapat'' Class of 1979 and is a certified military pilot .

Oban previously held key positions in charge of the AFP's strategic plans, Self-Reliant Defense Posture Program and Modernization Program as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, J5 in 2009 and as Executive Officer of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Capability Materiel and Technology Development (J9 in year 2002) of the AFP.

He also held the key Command positions in the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and at the General Headquarters. He assumed the posts: PAF Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Commander of the Air Defense `Wing and Commander of the 1 st Air Division PAF. Later he was named' as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Prgrems (J5) of the AFP prior to his appointment as the Vice Commander of the PAF.

Oban also held two Squadron Commander positions at the 5th Fighter Wing, Group Commander. of the Tactical Operations Group 12, and as Director for Operations of the 5th Fighter Wing.

Oban was also appointed to several government positions early in his career . He was assigned at the Ministry of Trade and Industry as Special Assistant to the Minister; as Military Assistant to the Deputy Minister, Ministry of. National Defense; and as Group Commander of the Department of National Defense intelligence Security Group .
