CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao, Philippines (PNA) – A clan war has erupted in a remote village in Maguindanao sending more than 150 families fleeing, the military here said.

Col. Prudencio Asto, speaking for the 6th Infantry Division, said involved in the armed skirmishes that began Monday dawn were members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Pentagon kidnap for ransom gang operating in Maguidanao’s marshland.

Asto said the warring groups first clashed Monday dawn in the village of Langapanen, Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao.

No one was reported killed or injured from both sides but the fight sent civilians fleeing, Asto, quoting field reports, said.

The Army spokesperson said involved in the conflict about 80 to 100 who were heavily armed.

“They fight one day and later they lay low. Then renew skirmishes once they started seeing each other anew,” Asto told reporters.

Asto said Maj. Gen. Anthony Alcantara, chief of the military’s 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division based here, has ordered the deployment of peacekeeping forces to prevent the escalation of armed skirmishes.

He also ordered the soldiers on the ground to provide the necessary assistance for displaced families.
