53 nabbed for anti-curfew, 2 for anti-porn in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Philippines (PNA) – The city government’s task forces on curfew and Internet and Gaming Center, Anti-Piracy and Anti-Pornography (IGCAPP) were able to apprehend a total of 53 minors during their curfew inspection in various city districts.

Forty-seven were caught inside Internet stations, while six were taken into custody for violation of the liquor ban for minors.

Two adult men were also caught viewing pornographic shows inside an Internet station in Huervana St., La Paz in the wee hours of the morning.

The monitoring activities covered the period between February 17 to March 5.

In his report to Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, task force chairperson Ben Palma said all the minors apprehended were turned over to the Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Meanwhile, violators for anti-pornography were initially informed of their offense, while the Internet operator was briefed on the violation made.

Mabilog created the task forces to monitor, create programs and provide awareness campaign against the proliferation of video piracy and pornography in Internet stations, gaming centers and business stalls in the city.

City Ordinance No. 2001-185 regulates gaming and Internet use including the prohibition of minors on specific time and day.

The curfew for minors, Ordinance No. 2006-020, prohibits roaming around the metro between 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.

Ordinance No. 2008-392 penalizes the printing, exhibit, circulation and distribution of pornographic materials and pirated videos which violates the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
