Roxas City willing to employ repatriated OFWs
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) – The Roxas City government is willing to employ repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that are affected by political unrest in other nations, particularly the Arab countries.
Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino said that Filipinos, especially from the city who are repatriated because of unrest overseas are assured of employment by the city government
“It all depends on them if they are willing to work with a salary that is much less than what they earn abroad,” Celino said even as he assured that the city government is ready to accept their services.
Celino said that this is part of his commitment to his constituents to provide the needed assistance especially with the recent political unrest in other countries.
He said he has directed Public Employment Service Office (PESO) manager Milagros Barquin to closely coordinate with the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) to obtain a list of Roxas City residents who are employed in Libya and other Arab countries.
Celino also revealed that the Roxas City government will establish an Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Help Desk after the Sangguniang Panlungsod had given him the authority to enter a Memorandum of Agreement with the agency.
Barquin, meanwhile, said that as of March 11, the OWWA and DoLE reported that there are some 34 Capiceños who were identified as working in Libya.
