Use of CCTV cameras in Zambo business establishments pushed

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – The City Council here is now carefully studying a measure that would require all business establishments in the city to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras within their business establishments.

City Councilor Myra Paz Abubakar (2nd District) said she is bent on pushing for an ordinance that would require all business establishments in this city to install a CCTV Camera at within their establishments.

Abubakar believes that surveillance cameras are very useful and effective in the prevention and solving crimes in this city that may be perpetrated by lawless elements that operates in the nearby province of Basilan.

The lady councilor said she is now in consultation with majority of her colleagues at the City Council to get their support regarding her proposal.

“Maybe in the future, we can expand the use of these surveillance cameras to national and local government offices,” Abubakar said.

She said that at present, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Church, and the Sangguniang Panlungsod here had already installed CCTV cameras in strategic areas and are now operational.

According to Abubakar, the measure is for the good of the business establishments here.

“The owner of the establishments and the people of this city will benefit from it,” she emphasized. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
