Bohol as new BPO hub bid dependent on local leaders
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Philippines ( PIA) – Just how determined Bohol is in getting into the booming business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is dependent on the province’s leaders.
This was underlined by Commission on Information, Communication and Technology Commissioner Ivan Uy during the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Summit which tackled, among other issues, Bohol’s readiness in getting into the BPO industry.
Uy, who was keynote speaker, said the Bohol ICT Summit could bring about economic progress in Bohol.
“Economic development can not just be concentrated in the metro regions,” he said. “It must be brought to the countryside so people outside existing metro urban areas can also benefit from its progress,” Uy said, adding that his office is mandated to do just that.
Uy, who has been meeting with the Bohol ICT Council said he has seen for himself the ecosystem [in Bohol], and that he was “very encouraged because I saw the energy and the desire to bring about rapid economic development” here.
By ecosystem, Uy meant the digital infrastructure set up here, the academic community and the relentless pursuit for the right tools by the ICT graduates and the supportive business community.
“Boholanos are very much equipped in the industry,” he said.
