MANILA, Philippines - The House of Representatives impeached Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez following a seven-hour marathon session that ended past 1 am today.

House Resolution No.1089 submitted by the House Committee on Justice will form basis of the Articles of Impeachment that will be sent to the Senate which will transform into an impeachment court.

Gutierrez was charged with betrayal of public trust for failing to act or deliberately bungling six high profile cases to insulate former president and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, her relatives and allies from facing criminal charges.
