Lacson likely to come out of hiding
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Panfilo Lacson will likely come out of hiding after the Court of Appeals nullified the arrest warrant against him in connection with the Dacer-Corbito murder case, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said Tuesday.
Robredo said he has the impression that Lacson is out of the country but may return home soon to resume his duties in Senate.
“I think Senator Ping will come back soon,” Robredo said in Filipino in an interview with reporters at the World Water Day gathering in Pasay City, after the CA issued its decision on Lacson.
“He has an obligation in the Senate. There are many things that happened that he must help address. Now that the arrest warrant is lifted, it is time for Senator Ping to return and resume his duties,” he added.
Robredo said that “in all likelihood,” elusive senator is not in the Philippines, citing the former police chief was very skillful.
Following the CA’s decision finding no probable cause to indict Lacson behind the Dacer-Corbito killings, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said they are eyeing two options either by bringing the battle all way to the Supreme Court (SC) or call for reinvestigation.
The former chair of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) admitted that they are weighing their options to ensure success in the prosecution.
De Lima said that they are more inclined towards a reinvestigation as the "best" mode to go after the brains.
“It is battle of credibility among key personalities, former police Senior Superintendents Cezar Mancao II, Michael Ray Aquino and former Supt. Glen Dumlao,” said de Lima.
De Lima also directed the government prosecutors to unmask the one they call "Bigote."
She noted the witnesses are consistent in the involvement of the man they call "Bigote."
