Lowering the bar

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III hailed as “heroes of the day” two lawmakers who were among the 212 members who voted to impeach Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez.

He didn’t include the national heroic figure Congressman Manny Pacquiao …who twitted that he would have voted against her impeachment.

DG Bokova will fly to the Banaue Rice Terraces, one of the UNESCO heritage sites. Hyatt Terraces, built with modern technolgy, collapsed under the earthquake… but the eons-old rice terraces stood the test of time.

UNESCO plans museum for destroyed articles like the giant Buddhas of Bamiyan, an Afghan archeological treasure vandalized by the Taliban. They can also include the Philippines, a damaged culture.

Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Erlinda Basilio will host a cordon bleu diplomatic dinner for the UNESCO DG.
