Fiji jolted by 6.4 magnitude earthquake

SUVA (PNA/Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck the Fiji region early Monday morning with no injuries reported, according to local radio FijiVillage website.

The undersea quake at around 2:10 a.m. local time hit 321 kilometers West of Suva at a depth of 555 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued, according to the report.

The area is in the Pacific "ring of fire," a highly active tectonic zone that frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
