4 mild quakes in Luzon
SINAIT, Ilocos Sur, Philippines – A cluster of four weak earthquakes were felt in Luzon and Mindanao yesterday morning but there were no damage or casualty, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) satellite office based here reported.
Local Phivolcs Researcher Julius Galdiano said the latest quake, which was magnitude 3.1, occurred at 7:24 a.m.
Its epicenter was placed 48 kilometers northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro, with a depth of 19 km.
Galdiano said the tremor registered Intensity 2 in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
The other quakes were a magnitude 3.6 centered 93 km. southwest of Mamburao; magnitude 2.5 centered 47 km. northwest of Tabuk, Kalinga, with no recorded intensity; magnitude 4.1 in Mindanao with the epicenter at 251 km. southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental.
Galdiano also said no aftershocks were recorded. Galdiano said that last Wednesday afternoon there were four mild quakes in the same general area.
A magnitude 3.3 tremor was recorded 94 km. southeast of Mamburao; magnitude 2.7 at 28 km. southwest of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro, magnitude 3.0 91 km. southeast of Mamburao; and magnitude 1.7 73 km. southeast of Mamburao.(Freddie G. Lazaro)
