Cops destroy 'weed' field
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines – Police said on Saturday that close to P6.75 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed by combined police operatives and anti-narcotics agents during a marijuana eradication operation on Holy Wednesday in Sitio Aliog, Barangay Balong, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Senior Superintendent Roberto Quinto Soriano, deputy regional director for operations of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Cordillera, said the destroyed illegal hemp was composed of 20,000 fully-grown marijuana plants.
Soriano said it had an estimated market value of the plants destroyed in the 500-square meter plantation site was P4 million.
During the conduct of the marijuana eradication operation, the government operatives were able to recover a sack of marijuana leaves weighing at least 50 kilos, with a market value of approximately P2.75 million.
