Cebu Governor gives message of hope
SIBONGA, Cebu, Philippines — Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia Saturday said Easter is a perfect time to give rise to the hope that unity amongst local officials and among Cebuanos can be achieved.
"Jesus Christ himself died for our sins and that was the ultimate sacrifice but death is not the ultimate end because there is a resurrection. A reminder to all of us that there is hope," Garcia said.
She said, “Christ's death was not the end but a beginning for all of mankind (and) Christ’s resurrection is a constant message of hope… that there will be less divisiveness, less acrimony and bitterness and more harmony, more cohesiveness and unity” in Cebu.
The first lady governor of Cebu had completed a 22-church Visita Iglesia in the province, a tradition which she has kept even when she was just a consultant to the provincial Capitol. She was accompanied by Capitol officials, town officials, and members of the Cebuano faithful during her whole-day Visita Iglesia activity.
Addressing her provincial constituents, Garcia said, "It may not be perfect unity but certainly we are seeing harmony and cohesiveness among most of our officials and among most of our people," she said even as she disclosed that she had “prayed for the continued protection of our beloved province.
