Budget to boost Siquijor agriculture, tourism OK'd
SIQUIJOR, Philippines (PIA) — The provincial government of Siquijor recently approved a P300-thousand budget as proposed by the Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Consortium here.
In a FITS meeting earlier, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC) Gladys F. Estrellada said that the proposed items lined up for the 2011 FITS Consortium budget had been approved by Siquijor Governor, Orlando A. Fua considering the benefits these are expected to give farmers of Siquijor.
FITS Chairman Bernardita S. Tabada thanked Estrellada for the support in approving the FITS Consortium budget but the PPDC said the approval of the budget is based on its contribution and significance to the thrust and programs of the provincial government. She said the provincial governor is focused on agriculture and tourism for the province.
Among the activities lined for this year’s budget are training on hydroponics; information caravan on climate change; training on cut flower production; training on livelihood for waste materials; capability enhancement for farmers; and training on banana processing.
