Coastal protection in Capiz given boost
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Municipal and barangay officials, fisherfolks and barangay residents in Ivisan town recently teamed up with a private group to for coastal protection.
Mayor Felipe Neri Yap said partnership between Ivisan and the Zooligical Society of London has resulted in the facilitation of a three-day workshop on the enhancement of a fishery ordinance aimed at protecting the environment, particularly coastal areas here.
Yap said the workshop on coastal resource management plan formulation and municipal fishery ordinance was aimed at further strengthening their locality’s existing fishery code relative to mangrove reforestation activities of Ivisan in partnership with the London-base non-government organization.
He added that Ivisan had been working with the private sector in the propagation of planting materials, mangrove reforestation and maintenance and protection of marine resources in their area.
“Over 60 barangay and town officials, fisherfolks, members of the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard and heads of national and local agencies participated in a coastal mapping workshop from April 12 to 14,” Yap informed, adding that members of the local Bantay Dagat force also participated.
